Feast of Sacrifice

Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the two most important Muslim holidays, and honors Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice one of his sons, as an act of obedience to God. As such, members of the Muslim faith across the globe purchase a halal animal, if possible, and slaughter it in the most humane way possible in order to provide food for their family, their community, and the needy. In Cedar Rapids, the local Muslim community from the Islamic Center of Cedar Rapids worked with a local rancher to provide sheep, and in turn meat, to mark the celebration.
